December Visibility Ride brought wind gusts up to 30 mph

With the predicted windy weather most of us decided not to venture out. Thanks to Tammy and Tom for braving the elements and riding on December 8 to mark the first anniversary of the Share the Road Las Cruces Visibility Ride.
For 2010 we would like to expand the ride to other times on the second Tuesday of the month in order to have more participants and build more visibility. If you would like to build a route and lead a ride please contact us at visibilityride@gmail.com

Thanks to all who joined us on the November VR ride!

We had another picture perfect morning for a great ride and plenty of cyclists turned out to enjoy. Will and I rode down from Sams on the Trivis bike lane. Jean, Melody and Dave started up on Soledad Canyon and Jean was able to join us at Starbucks. Ashley and Trina started at the Bean and joined George, Tammy, newcomers Tom and Kathy along with Miguel Silva, Tom Schuster and Filipe Scobell at the LC Railroad Museum.

Next month will be our one year anniversary, hopefully the weather will hold and we can add more cyclists to join us to celebrate all we have accomplised on our quest to make Las Cruces a bicycle friendly community.

Our thoughts are with Ron Taylor who had a bike crash today and hurt his elbow. Get well soon Ron.

We could not ask for better weather for our October ride.

Blue skies and warmed by the sun I headed down the Trivis bike lane for the first time. It was a great experience to be riding comfortably on the rode with other commuters. Motorist seemed less confused as to why I was on the road and not up on the multi-path that runs alongside of it. Zach caught up to me (well actually passed me as I am slow) and we headed down University to see who else was particpating in the Visibility Ride.

We met Tammy Schurr and Geaorge Pearson, had a cup of java and Cheryl Fallstead came by to take some photos for us.

Thanks also to the Talavera group, Jean, Dave and Melody for riding today

A cool way to remember when gears are easy or hard to pedal from class member Dennis.

Your chain is like a loved one
it's easy when your close to each other but
harder when you are further away

More to come

We will have the ride routes posted, links, t-shirt order form and more info. Just getting started. If you want to start another route, morning, lunch or after work just let us know.

The Share the Road Las Cruces (STRLC) Visibility Rides were rolled out in December 2008 as a monthly event to support the Share the Road Las Cruces Educational Campaign. The ride is a real-life, real-time demonstration of how bicyclists can safely ride with traffic. Additionally, it has begun to raise awareness among motorists of the presence of cyclists, of motorists' ability to safely share the road with cyclists, and of how cyclists behave while riding among vehicles while following traffic laws. A STRLC Visibility Ride will be held the first Monday of each month except for Independence Day, Labor Day and New Years Day 2012.
